The first, Europe, has launched the ambitious ecological project Fit for 55, the second, the mayors, are struggling with the madness of electricity bills and must intervene on the front of road lighting, which absorbs about 40 percent of the costs paid for energy by a municipality.
With one fact: it is estimated that the street lamps on Italian roads are 10 million, one for every 6 inhabitants, while only in Brescia there are 50,000 light points.
On the double track of efficiency and environmental benefit and on that of economic savings, Palazzoli, a centennial Brescia company active in lighting technology, has made its design offices work, which today have come to create FIT55-AI (artificial intelligence) street lamps, able to modify the distribution of the emitted light, adapting it to the weather conditions and therefore making it more comfortable and safe for circulation.
The photometric road distribution, that is, between one street lamp and another, is altered in the case of wet and reflective asphalt as in the case of fog, reducing the luminous flux by up to 20 percent.
FIT55-AI, with a sensor system (a wi-fi connection directs the data to a control unit, which remotely controls and supervises the network), automatically regulates the light emission according to weather conditions and according to the presence of cars, bicycles or pedestrians.
In practice: as if a car had better customized headlights or as if a pedestrian were helped by a flashlight of their own.
On the contrary, in the middle of the night or in any case with scarce traffic, the system reduces the light flow, with the double, obvious benefit both on costs (with a cut that is estimated to reach up to 60 percent) and on light pollution.
FIT55-AI is also able to change the colour of the emitted light to suit the time of day and the general situation.
