Electrical panel protection: prevent entry to accessible active parts
Where a panel contains regulating members, equipment that is not protected from direct contact or accessible active parts, access to these parts must only be granted to authorised persons with sufficient technical knowledge and experience to avoid electrocution hazards (authorised persons).
According to IEC 64-8/4, access to the panel is possible if one of the following requirements is met:
- with the use of a key or a tool;
- by interlocking the door with a disconnector, so that it can be opened only if the disconnector is open, removing the power supply to the panel;
- with an open door, with an intermediate barrierthat provides a degree of protection IPXXB. The barrier can only be removed with the use of a key or tool.
It is understood that the key is considered in a single copy, or in limited number, and entrusted to trained and authorized personnel.
However, in the event that a panel with accessible dangerous parts is installed in a room also open to unauthorised persons, it is mandatory to set up an interlocking system.
